UNDERSTANDING HIP PAIN

So, there are a lot of problems that occur around the hip joint, some are muscular some are bone related and some are a combination of both. Most of them are caused by overuse injuries, which include diagnosis and treatment of abnormal foot mechanics.

If the foot is not stable when it meets the ground, many of the muscles surrounding the hip joint become overworked and cause pain similar to overuse injuries in the knee and leg. The soft tissue injuries around the hip that are related to overuse injury syndrome are Trochanteric bursitis, iliotibial band syndrome, and stress fractures.

There are congenital deformities of the hip joint itself, as well as arthritis of the hip joint that can cause pain. A biomechanical and general sports medicine examination of the hip joint is of the utmost importance when determining the course of action necessary for treatment. The biomechanical answer for treatment is a good custom-made cushioned orthotic device as well as physical therapy and muscle rehabilitation. Surgery may be required to correct general or abnormal bone deformity at the hip joint itself.

One must also keep in mind that pain in and around the hip joint may be related to the lower back the spine or pelvic injuries.
