INTRODUCING CLASS IV LASER THERAPY: ADVANCED HEALING FOR FOOT AND ANKLE CONDITIONS AND SPORTS INJURIES

laser introDr. Lee S. Cohen and Associates is excited to announce the addition of Class IV Laser Therapy to its list of treatment modalities.  Class IV Laser Therapy is a non-invasive treatment designed to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing at the cellular level. Class IV laser therapy has been proven to help athletes and active individuals who need quick recovery from painful foot and ankle conditions, sports-related injuries, overuse injuries, and/ or post-surgical inflammation and discomfort.

“Providing cutting-edge technological treatment options like Class IV Laser Therapy allows us to enhance our ability to provide the personalized, high-quality care that our patients have come to expect. Combining innovative technologies with personalized care enables us to help our patients stay active, recover more quickly, and outperform. -Dr. Lee S. Cohen

What Is Class IV Laser Therapy?

Class IV lasers are high-powered medical devices that emit light energy (photons) at specific wavelengths. This therapeutic light penetrates deep into the body’s tissues and triggers a process known as photobiomodulation — a biological reaction that stimulates cellular repair and regeneration, boosts ATP (cellular energy) production, reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, and improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage

Unlike lower-level lasers (Class I–III), which are limited to superficial treatment, Class IV lasers deliver more than 0.5 watts of power, making them effective for treating deeper musculoskeletal conditions and chronic injuries.

Benefits of Class IV Laser Therapy include drug-free, surgery-free pain relief, faster healing and tissue repair, reduced swelling and inflammation, improved nerve function and mobility, and no downtime.

Conditions we see and treat in our office using Class IV Laser Therapy:

  • Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain

  • Tendonitis

  • Nerve Pain & Neuropathy

  • Flatfeet

  • Bunions

  • Bone Spurs

  • Hallux Limitus

  • Metatarsalgia

  • Post-Operative Swelling and Pain

  • Arthritis

  • Bursitis

  • Muscle strains

  • Ligament sprains

  • Sports injuries

  • Fungus

  • Warts

What to expect:

The treatment is straightforward and comfortable.

  • Painless – Most patients feel only gentle warmth or a mild tingling

  • Fast – Sessions usually last approximately minutes

  • Cumulative – Results build over time with multiple treatments

Treatment time is dependent on the size of the affected area and the severity of pain. Typically, no less than six treatment sessions are recommended for desired long-term effects based on your individual goals.  When used in combination with orthotics as part of orthotic rehabilitation, it can help to expedite a faster return to activity and improve outcomes.

Is Class IV Laser Therapy Safe?

When administered by trained professionals, Class IV laser therapy is FDA-cleared and safe. While side effects are rare, some patients may experience mild redness or temporary soreness. Discuss any preexisting medical conditions with your healthcare provider to determine if Class IV Laser Therapy is right for you.

Whether you’re an athlete recovering from a strain or dealing with long-term heel pain, laser therapy can help get you back on your feet faster and with less discomfort.
